How Legal Are DUI Checkpoints The Answer Just Might Surprise You

Labor Day is rapidly approaching, and everyone is looking forward to a little extra time off. Labor Day marks the unofficial end to summer, and many people celebrate with one final barbeque. This means good friends and family will get together to enjoy the outdoors one last time while having some good food. This all tends to involve a bit of alcohol as well.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying a few drinks, so long as it is done responsibly. Unfortunately, not everyone is responsible with their alcohol consumption. Some people still think it is perfectly acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having a few drinks. This is incorrect, and dangerous. Alcohol impairs the senses and clouds the mind, making it difficult for a person to drive in a safe manner.

Since holidays like Labor Day lead to more drinking, many law enforcement agencies set up DUI checkpoints on Labor Day. These checkpoints are used to find and pullover intoxicated drivers before they can cause an accident.

DUI checkpoint locations will always be posted before the evening in order to give drivers fair warning, thus allowing them to opt out of the stop if they want. A person can choose to avoid a DUI checkpoint, provided they do it in a legal manner. This means they cannot making any illegal U-turns, or other moves of this nature, to get away from the checkpoint.

With Labor Day right around the corner, it is important for everyone to be aware of the fact that there will likely be an increase in DUI checkpoints that weekend.

This shouldn’t be a problem for anyone so long as they are responsible with their alcohol consumption and do not drink and drive.
