07 Oct I’m In Jail; Can I Vote?
If you are wondering if you are eligible to vote in this year’s Presidential election since you are a convicted criminal who has just been released from jail, or will be in the next few days. Most people do not have to worry about that, but you do.
The straight-forward answer is that convicts do not get to vote unless they have been released from jail and completed parole. Once parole is completed, their voting rights are automatically restored.
However, defendants who were recently arrested, and are not yet serving time, are still eligible to vote as long as they can get to the voting polls on time. So, make sure to post bail ASAP to meet this opportunity, not to mention all the other events and opportunities waiting for you.
